Unless the CSHSAA makes decisive changes to High School football in terms of neutering St Francis Browns 40 plus years of recruiting, cheating, skirting the rules and "CONVERTING TO CATHOLICISM" players from Public Schools the rest of the teams in Division 1 should go outside of the box and do the following until changes occur:

Like Div 2 and Div 3 in Calgary the Division 1 teams take a stand and MERGE the following High Schools football programs. Do what the merged schools do. Wear one High School team's HOME uniform and the other's AWAY and wear white helmets. A lot of players from different schools already play Spring football together.

It is A DRASTIC SOLUTION BUT NOTHING ELSE IS HAPPENING. Instead of 30 players, merged teams would have 40 plus better players.

1) Bishop O'Byrne and Centennial merge football programs. Top players from the South and the new High Schools (All Saints/Cardinal Schubert) from growing areas can play for this team. The concentration of players from both schools would leave the weaker player out. That is what St Francis does anyway. Those kids sit on the bench. These merged teams would have a legit shot at winning Cities.

2) Henry Wise Wood and Ernest Manning merge football programs. Top players from the West can play in this program & players from say Bishop Carroll might try to crack the line-up. Players from nearby lower Tier schools would try to crack the team.

3) Crescent Heights merges with St Mary's. This would produce a strong team from Central core with a chance to beat the St Francis cheats instead of beating their heads against a brick wall.

4) Notre Dame stands alone as they are known for the same things St Francis does. They have just lost their touch at the moment.

5) St Francis stands alone. Their stacked team will lose players because wins will no longer be a guarantee.

6) This leaves a bit of a gap in the east, but a couple of the Eastside & NE High Schools could merge teams and it would come along in a few years.

As mentioned this is slightly outside the box but it is doable. A lot of coaches and players cross paths on different teams through Midget/Spring Football.

If you push the egos aside it makes a lot of sense. It would also become a much higher quality football league in Div 1.

Super League - the CSHSAA has to allow it. They already allow merged teams. If they say "well, this is Div 1" tell them "you do nothing about St Francis and have not for four decades".

Players who just want to play for fun only would still have Div 2 and Div 3.

5 teams until East added, 8 game season, teams play each other twice. 4 games X 2

Better games, better players, better coaching, better competition for City Championship & Provincials, South & West & East could win City

As the man said COACHING ALONE WILL NOT BEAT A STACKED TEAM, it is not happening as Division 1 is currently

Calgary High School Division 1 - Schools Alphabetical

BOB/Cent
Crescent Hts/St. Mary's
(East Side to be added)
Manning/WW
ND
St F.

this is worth a look actually as it would certainly weed out some of the cringeworthy players some teams are forced to play in Division 1
if you can't reason with them, go around them, would be a hoot to hear St Francis say it was unfair, they laugh at other schools in the pub

Only solution I can see is Robert Thirsk moving up to div 1 and giving the non catholic players in the north who want to play div 1 a non catholic option.

Thirsk screwed up by letting Daum in the door. That man never had interest in playing div 1 unless he thought he could win. Did it two years with Bowness and got his ass handed to him by Francis so he ran back to div 2 with  Bowness. Thirsk needed to grow a div 1 program from the start and they are massively behind now. Would need a legit coach to turn that program into a div 1 now.

Count all the public school kids who played for St. Francis on the 2015 and 2016 teams.  Imagine if they had been in the public system at Thirsk.  Both teams would have been good!

People seem to think that Thirsk having a team will change things up. No it wont.

Just like in the south where its open season on Bantam kids the majority of players will still go to whichever sick coach can convince a 13 year old to come play for him.

If you want to fix Calgary high school football then start at the Bantam. That disgusting league needs to die, its sick how twisted its become.

ALL THE PROBLEMS IN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL STEM FROM CORRUPTION AND MISMANAGEMENT IN THE BANTAM ORGANISATION.

Your recruiting starts in Bantam. We all know Francis has its people/advocates in the Cowboys organization

ND needs to keep working on the Mavericks and Hilltoppers

WW would be smart to stay on the ever growing population of Stampeders and steal the odd from Colts and dogs

Bob and Cent are chopping the dogs and killing them and themselves in the process.

Cent always had Colts. Colts not that good but helps if Cent can take dogs.

Manning and Cres need to up their re recruiting game big time. So does bob and Cent

The other Bantam teams left over need to be poached by all. Get you best hoodie and caps out

Francis is great bc they have a group of kids playing sine Atom! Running stf offensive schemes for two teams since PeeWee! Drawing the best from the best of over 80 players in Bantam!

Other teams can do all that and might get closer?

Like Francis you need to embrace a Bantam team or two teams. Put your people in there Coaching. Feed them free food. Get them their own practice field (S). Let them tour high school at a very very early stage. Make your own development camps. Have them keep training under Francis pro coaches all year.

There is so much more.

Other high school teams need to really step up or fall to div2

Div 1 teams have a vested interest in ensuring that some of the div 2/3 teams never move up.

Grandin or Scarlett would neuter Wisewood if they move up as they share a significant territory with WW.

The two new high schools down south will neuter Cent/BOB along with WW as a significant portion of their recruiting takes place in Stamps territory where the new school is.

Manning jumped with joy when they realised Thirsk would stay in Div 2.

Div 1 coaches are also the ones who have the most power in the league in both midget and high school. They make a lot of the decisions and unfortunately the amount of corruption that exists has become disgusting.

For those who think "well div 2/3 coaches should just put in more work in the off season" - There is something seriously disgusting with the way its accepted that adults are pressuring and inducing 13 year olds to join their teams. There is something seriously disgusting about adults scheming with Bantams and midget teams to influence certain players.

The success of a high school program should not be based on which adult can have the most access to 13 year olds.

WW is the first team that deserves to rot in the depths, they're blatant with their recruiting. At-least Francis and ND actually do something with those players. WW just corrupts them.

Wasn't the Cent headcoach caught blatantly messaging a QB to join his team? What was he punished with? A 1 GAME SUSPENSION.

Coaches, all you risk is a one game suspension for blatantly trying to recruit and getting caught so go ahead and message all those playmakers cause being suspended for 1 game out of his 3 years is completely worth it. Infact we're all idiots for not seeing how great this tradeoff is.

OPEN SEASON BOYS!! LETS GET HUNTIN!

So winning justifies your actions and make iypt seem more legit

I like it. Luv ya man. Winning gives you an excuse. Losing make you a corrupt adult.

There can only be 1 winner. The rest are a bunch of corrupt losers

I keep reading how you adults think coaches can influence a 15yr old to go to there team. Maybe again his will? Some psychological corrupt warfare?

You adults are real stupid or you coaches think too highly of your skills.

No 15yr old is persuaded by adults. It is there choice. They o lay ones who may influence them are their buddies and parents.

This isn’t the 60s where a piece of candy hoodie cap persuades a kid.

May you adults got caught being shoved in a back seat. Not today’s kid. Go cry about your youth over a bowl of wheaties

15 year olds are in grade 9/10.

13 year olds are in grade 8 which is the last Bantam year.

So no, slimy coaches aren't targeting 15 year olds. They're targeting 13 year olds.

How young is 13? The average girl gets her period at 12. 13 year olds learn about x in algebra.

These adults target kids who don't even have armpit hair yet (on average).

Have to laugh, you people just keep going around in circles not knowing what you are really talking about. There only solution is to merge teams absent CSHSAA putting in HARD regulations

1) Dumb quote "WW would be smart to stay on the ever growing population of Stampeders and steal the odd from Colts and dogs"

The Stamps shrunk to 28 players & were horrible. WW players have been FORCED to go to the new Public High School Cardinal Schubert.
WW gets little from Bulldogs, a lot of average filler players and get none from Colts.

1a) “WW is the first team that deserves to rot in the depths, they're blatant with their recruiting. At-least Francis and ND actually do something with those players. WW just corrupts them.”
True - Wise Wood has drinking & boozing as part of the program & some WW players like vaping. A lot of them hang out at Chinook Shopping Center in their free time.

The WW Head Coach was sanctioned and suspended for recruiting.

2) "Wasn't the Cent headcoach caught blatantly messaging a QB to join his team? What was he punished with? A 1 GAME SUSPENSION.

The absolute best players on the Midget team in that south area go to BOB not Centennial, need to get your facts straight. Cent got the leaky secondary.

3) "Bob and Cent are chopping the dogs and killing them and themselves in the process. Cent always had Colts. Colts not that good but helps if Cent can take dogs."

Cent gets almost no Bulldogs, the guys they got are not going to help win cities. BOB gets Bulldogs and Colts, Colts split fairly equally. BOB has had Stamps players.

4) Stupid comment. "Manning and Cres need to up their re recruiting game big time. So does bob and Cent"
There are only really a small percentage of talented players around. The rest are average to below even.

5) This is Bullsh*t. They recruit. Atom hahahhahahahhaha

"Francis is great bc they have a group of kids playing sine Atom! Running stf offensive schemes for two teams since PeeWee! Drawing the best from the best of over 80 players in Bantam! Straight from the cbfa site.

The Calgary Bantam Football Association is a full contact tackle football league for youth’s aged 13 to 15 years.

An NCAA Div 1 FBS school offered a scholarship to a Toronto player when the player was in grade 8.

In your opinion the are the ultimate slime and I guess arrested?

We are talking about university not high school coaches contacting players in junior high!

I guess in your mind they are all slime

Or.....maybe the NCAA is on to something....it’s called recruiting.

US high schools throughout try to convince junior high players to play for their high school. Some players in fact go across state lines some go right across the country!

Guess all US coaches are slime in opinion.

I guess in your opinion US Football has it all wrong. NCAA has it all wrong. Hell the recruiting and drafting in the NFL is so wrong that the league should be sued for treating adults as a throw away product

"Uhhhhhhmmm" is very WRONG. The lack of intelligence on these boards is staggering.

Texas, the State that is the BEST at football in the US has very STRICT rules on who can play in what district, they have boundaries. Coaches are not allowed to recruit out of boundary which is why there have been people who had to MOVE THE HOME into a district to play for a team.

Texas UIL High School Football Rules

Section 406: RECRUITING
Recruiting is not only a violation by the student who has been recruited, but it is also a violation by the school and/or the school
district personnel who recruited the student. It is a violation to recruit at all grade levels and can result in suspension and forfeiture og games.

Section 407: ELIGIBILITY BURDEN OF PROOF
If a student’s eligibility to compete in a League contest is questioned, the student has the burden in any proceeding to establish
that he or she is eligible.

Section 408: BURDEN OF PROOF IN ALLEGATIONS OF VIOLATIONS
If a district executive committee or the State Executive Committee determines that a complaint or report of a violation has
enough validity or substance to hold a hearing, the burden to disprove the allegations rests with the participant school, member
school district or covered school district personnel charged with the violation.

*******************************************************

Alabama - another top foorball state has instituted strict rules

New rules try to sideline recruiting among high schools

Stiffer penalties passed recently by the Alabama High School Athletic Association are intended to discourage recruiting by coaches. Beginning with the 2012-13 academic year, a team found guilty of recruiting will go on restrictive probation and will be banned from the state playoffs for a year.

Any coach ruled to have been involved in illegal recruiting faces a ban from coaching at an AHSAA school for a full year, as well.

“I think it’s a great thing,” Pinson Valley football coach Matt Glover said. “I think it should be changed (further) to if anybody from the school gets caught. It’s not always the head coach that recruits the kid. AAU coaches (and) daddies recruit. I’ve had that happen here.”

After reading all the posts merging Division 1 teams seems to be one of the better ways to deal with the problem as the Francis/Cowboys types do not want to give an inch
or
boycott one season until changes are made through CSHSAA that teams can vote on and will restore a competitive playing field

which of the above is better for the High School player? Merged teams obviously

Designate a Division 1 Football High Cchool in EACH OF 5 regions of the city that will focus on Football if you don't want to merge schools, flip a coin who gets it. There are designated Hockey schools in Calgary. Better football for Calgary.

5 regions - 4 games per year per opponent, play them twice

A 1 week spring camp for Grade 9's would select those who should transfer to the designated Football school.

North

South

East

West

Central

That will balance things better.
