The Edmonton Mustangs are an embarrassment to football, based on their actions from Saturday past.  Quitting is not what football is about.  The actions of their coaches are cowardly and set an extremely poor example for the young men on the team.  Not only should they be banned from the Tier 2 final this Saturday, they should be banned from league play next season. People wonder what is wrong with youth football in Edmonton...the Mustangs exemplify all that is wrong with football in northern Alberta.

If you believed all of the hype pre-season coming out of some of the parent's mouths (Ken Olson). The Mustangs were back with "elite level coaches" and were going to be awesome! So, having the head coach of the Bears, the former d-line coach of the Bears, the Head Coach at Scona, a coach from the Huskies and a load of Junior/ CIS players doesn't equal success???

Don't they have several U-18 Alberta prospects? Former U-16 players? Alberta summer games zone players?

Can't really be elite level coaching, I suppose!

Soooo what did the AInlay Mustangs do this weekend that was so horrible???  Please tell!  They quit?!?!?  What kind of a lesson is that for the players??  I guess with their "all star" coaching staff they're "special"??

They were down 53 or 56 zip before the end of the first half and one of their DBs got hurt.  Leg injury, I think.  They called an ambulance, the teams went in for the half and the Mustangs just didn't show up for the second half.  The Red Dogs traveled in from Lloyd to get a half a game.  I can't imagine the Mustangs will want to show their faces at the Tier 2 final against Seahawks this weekend?

35 nothing with 59 seconds to play in Q2 when the injury occurred to the Mustangs. Halftime early while they waited for ambulance & then the Mustang coaches met with the refs and they called the game. Not too sure why. Yes it was 35 nothing, but the Mustangs had the ball within the Dogs 10 yd line twice and came away with no points. Fumble & turn over on downs. Were they going to come back & win?...No, but that's not why you call a game. Mustangs were outplayed, but did move the ball from time to time.

I agree the message to the players of both teams is absolutely brutal and those coaches should be called to task for throwing in the towel. Regardless whether it was because of the injury or the score or a little of both, the decision to call the game is wrong. Sad, sad, sad.

I watched u18 tryout yesterday.  With a few exceptions rural and southern players are outperforming our stars by a wide margin. Bigger, stronger and faster with better fundamentals. You can see this in midget, watching provincial level in high school, and yesterday. It's not just one team in midget but i agree that was bad. Somehow we have fallen behind and need we to catch up!

Looks like Morris is starting by taking ALL the Ainlay players (almost) and a bunch of Facey players for the U18 Alberta team...even though some of them were HORRIBLE during try outs.  Let's hope they don't "quit" in the middle of one of ther Canada Cup games...do better Coach Morris!

Looks like Scona is setting up to become the new Mustangs feeder. Hahahaha Scona deserves that! They are setting up to have potentially 4 Mustangs coaches for next year.  They should all get equal playing time, hold hands, do each other's hair and play only games that don't have any potential to bruise their manicured nails!

Your right some are Chargers, not much better. But they didn't quit. Ainley kids are just a bit overrated. Not their fault.

say wat you will about the coaches,- but the Mustangs mission statement the last two years has been to develop players

that’s why you see they get all of their players into the game for at least a quarter. Even if they have no business playing football.

rd dawgs meanwhile keep their entire starting line in the game until the whistle and are throwing trick passes to their starting QB for a touchdown while leading by six scores

Most other midget programs aren’t much better.
